BUSD OKs ’15-’16 budget

June 25, 2015 by Keri Luiz Leave a Comment

The final two acts of the Benicia Unified School District Board of Trustees before the summer break were the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) and the 2015-16 budget.

There were public hearings for both of these items at the board’s June 11 meeting. On June 18 outgoing Superintendent Janice Adams presented the LCAP for approval.

The LCAP is required to receive state funding provided by the Local Control Funding Formula. The LCAP includes three sections: student outcomes, student and parent engagement, and conditions of learning.

“We had our public hearing last time, and went through this in detail. We did get an updated version, there were some revisions that the county suggested,” Adams said last week.

Because the LCAP was discussed in lengthy detail, none of the board felt a need for any more comment, and the LCAP was unanimously approved.

Chief Business Official Tim Rahill presented the 2015-16 budget for approval.

“Similar to the LCAP, we had a public hearing at the last board meeting last week. There is no change to the 2015-16 budget,” Rahill said.

Rahill said the budget is a break-even budget for the 2015-16 year, which includes the state’s 3-percent reserve as well as the local board policy for a 4-percent reserve, which indicates “that we are filing this as a positive certification.”
Adoption of the 2015-16 budget was unanimous.

Trustee Diane Ferrucci was the only member of the board who was absent. The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 20.
